For some unknown reason, my son insisted on taking a soccer ball with him during our afternoon walk. We ended up walking by a local park field so we decided to pause for some large motor fun! This was a perfect opportunity to practice those running skills, standing on one leg briefly while kicking, and throwing overhead. We had so much fun playing with the ball that I will definitely bring a ball with us next time as you never know when an opportunity will present itself!
If you would like to practice these skills at home with your toddler, all you need is a ball and some open space outdoors! Depending on the developmental level of your toddler, modeling the intended behavior is always ideal as young children are visual learners. For an added challenge, you can practice kicking or throwing the ball back and forth. This is great way to practice taking turns!
