Learning with water play

Water play is more than just a way to cool down on a hot summer day or wash away germs. Its also an opportunity to practice a variety of developmental skills! Types of water play include baths, water tables, sprinklers, splash pads, kiddie pools and puddles.

Here's some skills to look out for what engaging in water play with your child:

-Motor skills (sitting, crawling, standing, walking, jumping) -Fine motor skills (using hands and fingers to manipulate water toys) -Building vocabulary -Problem-solving skills (experimenting with basic mathematical and scientific processes) Social-emotional skills (sometimes water play can be therapeutic as with a calming bath)
